MTS OTC VOLUNTEERING - PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE A FOUR-DAY PASS AND PARKING!

As a supporting organization, MTS Houston is looking for VOLUNTEERS for OTC. We are looking for help with Arrangements, Registration and Student Activities. Click here to see the specific responsibilities for each of these duties.

As in the past OTC is offering a free FOUR-DAY PASS to OTC and a RESERVED PARKING pass to those who participate.

Click here for the Volunteer Registration Form. Please fill out the form and return it to Diane Knippa at dknippa@otcnet.org. Her contact information is also located at the bottom of the form.

For MTS to receive credit there are two items that need your attention:

  1. Select the area where you would like to assist – top right hand corner of the Volunteer Registration Sheet
  2. Make sure that the Marine Technology box (No: 50) is checked in the Sponsoring Organization box

Checking the MTS box is extremely important as this is how MTS will receive credit for your involvement.

Should you have questions or if you need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact Sandor Karpathy at sandor.karpathy@stress.com or at 281-890-8441.

ARRANGEMENTS

The Offshore Technology Conference Arrangements Volunteer Program is to provide a vital link between each technical session room and Conference management. Volunteers direct session attendees to available seating and provide information on conditions in the meeting rooms enabling the staff to make adjustments or correct problems.  Volunteers should be able to sit for periods of time and be able to walk limited distances.

One volunteer will be assigned to a technical session room during their shift.  Sixteen volunteers are needed each day. The volunteer will meet in the Speaker Ready Room at Reliant Center one hour before the session begins (0830 or 1300) to be briefed on changes and will pick up and deliver author and session chairman gifts prior to start of session.  Morning shift time is 0830 - 1200; Afternoon shift time is 1300 – 1630.

REGISTRATION
The primary function of the Offshore Technology Conference Registration Volunteer Program is to monitor the registration effort and provide information and assistance to meeting registrants.  OTC staff will do the actual badge preparation, money collection and accounting while the Registration Volunteers orient the attendees on proper registration procedures.  Volunteers should be able to stand for periods of time.

Volunteers will instruct registrants to complete form and proceed to registration counters.  If registered in advance, proceed to Pre-Registered kiosks.  Registration Volunteers will be assigned to the B, D & E Lobbies and the Arena and will require 13 volunteers each shift.  Morning shift time is 0800 – 1200.  Afternoon shift time is from 1200 – 1500.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES
The Offshore Technology Conference Student Activities Volunteer Program is responsible for conducting tours of the exhibition for Houston-area high school students.  The tours are held on Thursday morning of the Conference.  The purpose of the program is to provide an overview of offshore technology to students with high interest and aptitude in math and science.  The program seeks to encourage students to consider college and career opportunities in science and engineering.

Student Activities Volunteers act as tour guides for the students in the exhibit hall.  On average, 200 students participate, which will require 20-25 volunteers to serve as guides.  The OTC Staff will contact Houston-area high schools and coordinate scheduling for the tour.  Volunteers should be able to walk extensively during this time.  The shift on Thursday is 0800 – 1330.  The tour will begin in the Arena.

Due to increased security all committee members must have their badges prior to the first day of the event.  Badges can be picked up during the meeting on-site, Friday, April 30 at 1000.  Parking passes will be passed out at this meeting. No one will be allowed in the Exhibit Hall without proper badges.
