each year, thanks to the generosity of our members and event sponsors.

The application criteria
for the 2009 awards is tentatively as follows:
- MTS sponsor must attend at least three (3) MTS events
over the past six months, including luncheon sessions and other events
like the golf tournament, barbeque, sporting clays, etc.
- Student must be a direct relation to
the Sponsor (son or daughter-step / foster, grandson or grand daughter-step
/ foster, niece or nephew-step / foster).
- Student must plan to attend full time at an accredited
college or university
- Student must have a Grade Point Average
of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
- Student must have acquired acceptance
to the college of his/her choice
- Student must have a financial need
- Scholarship monies will be paid to the
institution in the student’s name
- Applications and supporting documents
must be received no later than April 30, 2008.

The Selection Committee will review and score all applications submitted and each applicant’s references may be contacted by telephone. The scholarship recipients will be notified by June 30, 2008.

A & M University Galveston - Current Scholarship winnners
| Kendall Plattner is a Senior at TAMUG,
pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Maritime Systems Engineering, as
well as a national member of MTS. She is a Varsity coxswain for
the university rowing team, Aggie Crew. Kendall is involved with
several campus organizations, including Sea Aggies for Christ, the
Drama Club, and the Student Judiciary Committee. Outside of school,
she works for a wedding photographer and the local Newman Center.
In her studies, Kendall has been intrigued by coastal engineering,
and will consider a career in the field upon her graduation in May
2006. |

| Juan Monge
is a Maritime Systems Engineering student at the Texas
A&M University Galveston campus. He plans on graduating in the
spring of 2007, and wants a career in the areas of structural/coastal
engineering. |

| Michael
Arthur is a junior at Texas A&M University at Galveston.
He plans on using his Maritime Systems Engineering degree to obtain
a position in the offshore oil industry where he would like to do
field work (offshore). With this offshore experience he hopes to
acquire a construction management position where he would be a valuable
asset. |

ROV Committee Scholarships - 2005
Congratulations
to Kevin Bretney, David Kunz, Brady Gibbs, and Justin Leidwanger recipients
of the MTS 2005 ROV Committee Scholarships. Also to Yuko Yokazawa and
Kathy Keyton who received special ROV Committee Scholarships exclusively
for MATE students.
Mr. Bretney, a freshman at Franklin W. Olin College
of Engineering, was awarded $5,000.
Mr.
Kunz, a freshman at Gonzaga University in Spokane was awarded
$2,500.
Mr. Gibbs is a Marine/Mechanical Engineering major
at Texas A&M University in Galveston received $1,250.
Mr.
Leidwanger who is pursuing a Masters in Nautical Archaeology
at Texas A&M in College Station received $1,250.
Ms
Yokazawa, a Marine Science and Technology major at Monterey
Peninsula College received $3,000
Ms. Keyton, who is pursuing a degree in arine Technology
at Cape Fear Community College, will receive $2,000.
The ROV Committee scholarship program, initiated by Drew Michel
in 1994, has awarded over $65,000. Scholarship applications for 2006/7
must be received by April 15, 2006. Details at http://www.rov.org

Ocean Engineering Student Award - $100 - Jeremy Young (also winner of
Ingram Scholarship)
Jeremy
Young (shown left with Bob Randall, Texas A&M) has been the president
of the student chapter of MTS and SNAME for two years. He was also president
and treasurer of the Lamda Chi Alpha social fraternity. He has been a
member of the Human Powered Submarine Team for two years and participated
in the races in 2003 and 2004. Jeremy served as vice president and treasurer
of the Ocean Engineering Honor Society, Omega Epsilon. Jeremy has a scholarship
from the US Navy and will begin active duty upon graduation in May 2005.
